We are a united fellowship of believers seeking to follow in Jesus’ steps by welcoming others to explore the transforming power of the Gospel, and by sharing hope through practical and spiritual service.
Church mission
Our mission is to provide a channel for Mandarin-speaking immigrants in the Greater Vancouver Area to encounter the Gospel, be spiritually nourished through Christ, gain the fellowship of Christians, and become equipped to share the Gospel and help all people.
Salvation Army mission
The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.

What we believe
The Salvation Army’s eleven doctrines express the foundation of our Christian faith.
- We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the divine rule of Christian faith and practice.
- We believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.
- We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead—the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost—undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.
- We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the divine and human natures are united, so that he is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.
- We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience they lost their purity and happiness; and that in consequence of their fall all people have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.
- We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has by his suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved.
- We believe that repentance toward God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary to salvation.
- We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and that the believer has the witness in themselves.
- We believe that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.
- We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We believe in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.
Our story
Inspired by the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus, Salvation Army New Life Church was established on November 11, 2012 at its present location near the Vancouver–Burnaby boundary. From the beginning, our purpose has been to preach the Gospel, nourish Christian life and serve people in the community.
A brief chronology
- 2012: A core Bible study began, followed by the formal establishment of Salvation Army New Life Church with Sunday worship, children’s Sunday school and Bible study.
- 2013: ESL classes, a church-wide Bible reading campaign, high school Sunday school and the New Horizon seniors’ fellowship began.
- 2014: Adult Sunday school, New Life Chinese School and youth fellowship were established.
- 2015: Family Bible study and prayer groups began, along with student tutoring.
- 2016: The Burnaby community food supply station and Burnaby Mandarin Gospel Fellowship were established.
- 2017: Children’s Sunday Chinese class, praise exercise and the church choir began.
- 2018: Women’s fellowship, Sunday Bible study classes, and college and career fellowship were formed.
- 2019: The community family arts program began with music, drama, painting and fine arts.
- 2020: Plans for a men’s fellowship were initiated and later postponed during the pandemic.
