Community service

Our ministries grow from Jesus’ love and the Salvation Army tradition of practical care. Program descriptions and times were carried over from the former site; please contact the church before attending a weekday program.

ESL classes

The ESL program was created for neighbours who want to learn basic English or strengthen their listening, speaking and writing. Its goal is to help students communicate confidently and settle into life in Canada.

Courses have used Ventures and Side-by-Side across five levels, from foundational learning through levels one to four. The former schedule was Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 am. For current details, email sacs@sanewlife.ca or call 604-428-0607.

Family arts program

The family arts program offers children ages 6 to 15 a foundation in the arts while learning alongside a parent or guardian. Interactive classes have included wind and keyboard instruments, music theory, painting, theatre and crafts.

Emergency and disaster relief

Emergency Disaster Service is a longstanding Salvation Army ministry. After completing emergency response training, volunteers may support community and government relief efforts. Salvation Army New Life Church members have participated in Vancouver earthquake-preparedness events, assisted residents after a Burnaby apartment fire, and supported food services during British Columbia wildfires.

Fellowship for every season

Youth fellowship

Through Scripture, spiritual sharing, friendship, thoughtful conversation, physical activity and community service, we seek to cultivate spiritual growth and strong character in young people.

Youth fellowship is open to teenagers. Activities have included worship music, messages, discussion, group games, basketball, badminton, table tennis, bowling, hikes and retreats. Pastoral counselling, academic support and volunteer-hour opportunities may also be available.

College and career fellowship

We hope young adults find encouragement, friendship, laughter and a shared pursuit of God’s teaching. Gatherings have included worship, Bible study, discussion, sports, movie nights, cooking, retreats and community service.

Women’s fellowship

The women’s fellowship is grounded in the love and teaching of Jesus Christ. It seeks to strengthen relationships, cultivate spiritual life, deepen faith, enrich knowledge and serve both church and community. Activities have included talks, singing, cooking, dancing, charity sales, films and outings. Everyone is welcome.

Children

We believe teaching children the Bible introduces them to God’s love and helps them love God and others. Children’s Sunday school encourages faith, respect for life, responsibility, tolerance, honesty and integrity.

Children’s Sunday school takes place during Sunday worship. Teachers guide different age groups through Bible stories, singing, art, performances and games.

Spirituality and discipleship

Spiritual development is something every child of God is invited to pursue. In God’s Word and light, we come to know God more fully and grow toward the fullness of Christ.

Bible study and prayer meetings began even before Salvation Army New Life Church was established. Over time, home groups, Sunday Bible classes and introductory Christianity courses were added for people at different stages of faith.

Music

Music touches the heart, cleanses the soul and awakens faith and courage. Through music we respond to God’s love and grace, expressing worship and prayer to the one true God.

The church’s music ministries have included praise and worship, choir and handbell choir.
